OPEN GYM FOR YOUTH WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, ALL AGES 
Sports Activities for Youth with Disabilities is a unique recreational program designed so that children with any type of disability can participate in sports, particularly if their disability makes it difficult for them to join other mainstream programs. Activities will be tailored to meet the interest and ability level of each participant. The kids can learn basic skills and participate on an individual basis with a small group in basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, volleyball, bowling and kickball. A parent or guardian is required to attend and may help or participate as needed. Cost: $75

Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation is offering After School Bowling as a fun, safe, supervised and recreation activity for students. Join us for a trip to the Easton’s Bowling Centre. Cost includes transportation to and from the school parking lot, bowling and shoes. Snacks can be purchased at bowling alley for a separate fee. Cost: $60

COOKIES WITH CLAUS, ALL AGES                   

The weather outside is frightful, but inside Matapeake Clubhouse along the Chesapeake Bay it is delightful.  Take a break from the holiday hustle to enjoy cookies, cocoa and other holiday fun and games!  Then take your turn sitting on Santa’s lap to tell him your holiday wants and wishes.  Parents will have the opportunity to take photos of your child with Santa on your camera or smart phone.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.    Cost: $10

PENNSYLVANIA CHRISTMAS & GIFT SHOW

Christmas shop at one of the largest holiday shows in the country! A festive celebration full of the wonderful things the season has to offer, completely indoors and all on one floor. The Pennsylvania Christmas & Gift Show is back for its 37th year with over 500 specialty shops. You will be pleased to find an array of unique and exclusive gifts such as jewelry, arts & crafts, clothing, toys, household accents, furniture, ceramics, dolls, flowers, paintings, holiday foods, stocking stuffers and so much more. Space is limited, so register early to reserve your seat! Registration fee includes round trip transportation and show admission. There will be a dinner stop on the return trip; dinner costs are not included in the trip fee.

SHOOTING STARS BASKETBALL, AGES 3 – 5

Through various developmentally appropriate skills exercises, Shooting Stars Basketball will introduce children ages 3 – 5 to the fine and gross motor skills necessary to play the game of basketball. Using the Start Smart Sports basketball curriculum you and your little one will work together to develop fundamental basketball skills such as dribbling/ball handling, passing/catching, shooting and running/agility all in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. Held once a week for 6 weeks, each week the skills exercises will increase in difficulty as the participants’ progress. No special equipment is needed. WOOF AND WALK,  ALL AGES           

Winter Blues? Cabin Fever? It’s time to get off the couch and into nature. Bring your 4 – legged best friends and join Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation staff as we get our bodies moving and bask in the fresh winter air. This guided hike will go through the equestrian trail at Conquest and will talk about the local wildlife and the future landscape of this hidden gem.  We will meet at the trail head in the parking lot. Please dress accordingly and bundle up for the potentially cold weather. All dogs who participate in the hike must remain on a physical leash at all times! Non–Socialized dogs NOT recommended! SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY & CULTURE

A People’s Journey, A Nation’s Story”  Join Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation for a trip to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture.  The Smithsonian’s newest museum is home to nearly 3000 objects, 12 exhibitions, 13 different interactives with 17 stations, and 183 videos portraying “Powerful moments in African American history, culture, and community.”  Download the museums mobile app as a compliment to your onsite experience at https://nmaahc.si.edu/connect/mobile/apps  Registration fee includes motor coach transportation and timed passes (10:00 am Entry) to the museum.

Children, parents, grandparents,  brothers and sisters will be able to work together to create a one of a kind birdhouse for their native friends in their backyard. Tools and paint will be provided. NATURE’S POINT: A NATURE BASED CURRICULUM, AGES 3 – 5  

Let your child’s natural curiosity and sense of adventure come alive this fall during our week long Nature Pre – School Program. For 4 weeks, we will spend Tuesdays and Thursdays outdoors engaged in hands on nature themed play and activities and games designed to encourage independent thinking, socialization and discoveries in the natural world.

Closed toed shoes and clothing that can get dirty are required. Bug spray and sunscreen is recommended. Supplies and Materials are provided. Cost: $180 per session

SURVIVING  NATURE, AGES 5 AND UP

This program is inspired by the Hug-A-Tree program. The Hug-A-Tree and Survive program teaches children how to survive in the woods if they should become lost. Children and parents will be able to interact with the instructor and participate in the real life demonstrations. Children will take home a goodie bag provided by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

 ARCHAEOLOGY ADVENTURE, AGES 6+   

 Imagine being on an archaeological dig and discovering the rich cultural history of Native Americans. Your children will learn to discern the lifestyles of pre-industrial cultures and compare them to our own society by simulating an archaeologist full day of work. This exclusive Archaeology program recreates this incredible experience for everyone!

Both children and adults will be able to set up a simulated dig site complete with fragmented pottery that must be pieced together, beads, arrowheads, shells and even a bunch of animal bones (leading to discussions about dietary habits). We even include a professional-quality screen for sifting out key findings. Children will have the opportunity to create their own necklace with a real arrowhead similar to the ones Native American had. Cost: $10

FOREST FOREVER: CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH QAC PARKS AND REC STAFF! , AGES 6-9

 The kit for this program contains tree nuts. Not recommended with children with nut allergies.

Have your children ever show interest in nature to the point where they want to help restore the Earth’s natural playground?  This hands-on and education Earth Day program will have them become involved in replenishing the forest in their neighborhoods! The earth’s forests are being depleted faster than they are being replenished. Deforestation is a major environmental issue as cities and roads have been built in areas that were once home to thriving forest ecosystems. This impacts not only the trees and plants, but also all of the wildlife that depend on the forest for their food. Join us as we explore the importance of our forests, inspect and identify different seed pods and pine cones, and plant a pine tree. Please wear clothing that can get dirty, sun screen and bug spray! Cost: $15

WHITE MARSH PARK FISHING DERBY, AGES 5 – 16                    

Queen Anne’s County Dept. of Parks and Recreation is please to host the first Fishing Derby of 2019. Kids ages 5 -16 will have an opportunity to put their love of fishing to test on a Saturday morning. Prizes will be given in each age bracket for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish. Age Brackets will be 5 – 10 and 11 – 16. Pre – registration is not required but is strongly recommended. A limited number of rod/ reels and tackle box supplies will be provided. A limited number of shirts will be provided for the participants. Prizes will be given out at 10:45 a.m. Cost: $8

BOATER SAFETY, AGES 12 AND UP

Learn boating skills IN THE CLASSROOM with a skilled instructor and earn your valid certificate of boating safety from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The topics that will be covered include types of vessels, MD regulations, what to do in an emergency, navigational aids, marine weather, paddlecraft responsibility, personal watercraft safety, and much more. This course meets the Maryland Boating Safety Education Act requirement needed for persons born on or after July 1, 1972, to operate a motorized vessel on Maryland waters. Cost: $30 per person

If you’re new to kayaking or just want a low-key outdoor experience, join Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation staff on our new fall kayak trips! Each trip is geared towards all kayak levels, includes equipment and brief instruction, and is focused on enjoying nature and wildlife from a unique vantage point. Kayaks will be reserved for two hours on these days. Kayak rentals will resume at 12:30 pm. Cost: $20 per person, if you have your own boat and gear $10

Did some BUNNY say egg hunt?   Join Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation for a “hoppin” good time.  We will celebrate the beginning of spring with crafts, games, a visit from the Easter Bunny and of course  the great egg hunt! Be sure to bring your basket to collect eggs, and a camera to take pictures with the Easter Bunny.
