2010 Boater Safety, Ages 10+ PDF Print E-mail

This class is recommended for first time boaters to help insure safe boating practices on Maryland waters. The course includes: boating safety procedures and devices; rules of the road; basic navigation concepts and navigation aids; and emergency procedures. Upon successful completion of the exam a Department of Natural Resources Boating Safety Certification is issued. This course is mandatory for anyone born after July 1, 1972. Cost: $30. Kent Island Water Trails PDF Print E-mail

watertrailcoverpicsmallThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources and Queen Anne’s County have created a new water trails map and guide to lead paddlers along  six separate water trail routes in the Kent Island area of Queen Anne’s County. The colorful guide, printed on waterproof, tear-proof paper, was designed primarily for those touring by small, non-motorized boats, such as kayaks and canoes, but also provides information on motorized recreational boating access sites in the area.  The map and guide features practical information and details on access points and paddling routes along the Chesapeake Bay, Eastern Bay, Chester River, Prospect Bay, Thompson Creek, and Warehouse Creek.

Please Note

Permits to use Queen Anne's County's landings and ramps are actually permits to park at all landing facilities throughout Queen Anne's County. This permit is now valid for launching boats at Matapeake Pier or a kayak or canoe at Romancoke Pier.

To use any of the public landings, a current permit must be displayed by each vehicle, with or without a trailer, for either the launching of a boat or for general parking.

Annual permits are valid only when displayed on the driver's side of either the boat trailer tongue or the vehicle rear bumper. Daily permits are valid only when displayed on the windshield facing out. Launching at landings without a ramp is limited to canoes, kayaks and car-top boats.

New Rules for Matapeake & Romancoke Ramps PDF Print E-mail

matapeake-pierQAC Landings Permit Now Valid for Launching at Matapeake or Romancoke Ramps

The Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board voted recently to allow individuals who possess a Queen Anne's County Public Landings Permit to launch their boats at the Matapeake facility. The permit also covers those who launch canoes or kayaks at Romancoke Pier. The new change became effective June 1, 2009. Individuals who enter either of these facilities to use the piers for fishing, crabbing or use of the picnic areas will continue to pay the daily fee of $10. The entrance fee at Matapeake and Romancoke piers is $10 per vehicle for 24 hours. Additionally, the receipt now entitles patrons to park at both piers during the 24-hour period which is date and time stamped on the receipt.
